Sun-Earth connection PDF Print E-mail

Eruptive activity of the Sun has a very strong influence on everyday life: satellites, high power lines and communications can be disrupted and even shut down or destroyed by powerful solar activity.
Knowledge and prediction of these events is particularly important.
In this context the Adaheli mission will provide a closer view of these phenomena, paving the way for a better understanding of the Sun-Earth system.

Mission PDF Print E-mail

The aim of the ADAHELI Mission is to investigate the Sun's photospheric and chromospheric dynamics by performing observations in VIS-NIR bands and solar irradiance by acquisitions in the millimetric bands; the on-board instruments will be a millimeter band radiometer and a VIS-NIR high resolution telescope. The experiment with the NIR telescope is focused to study the highly dynamic and dishomogeneous atmospheric structure of the Sun, particularly in the chromospheric region that is the interface between the photosphere and the transition region at the base of solar corona. The continuous observations of a NIR telescope without the filter of the atmosphere will allow us to investigate for the first time these regions, helping us understand their structure, which is typical of all star atmospheres.

Instruments PDF Print E-mail

ADAHELI proposes an instrument suite which integrates and complements - without overlap - the present major objectives of ESA, NASA and the International Living with a Star program, in particular the Solar Dynamics Observatory, STEREO, Solar Orbiter and Solar Probe missions.
